About Nina

She is a distinguished public servant, advocate, and scientist with a deep commitment to community engagement, equity, and social justice, currently serving as City Council Member at Large for the City of Philadelphia, where she represents the interests of residents and shapes policy for the city. Prior to this role, she served as President of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW) and as a Board Member of the National Organization for Women, advancing gender equity and women's rights. She also served as Deputy Mayor for Public Engagement for the City of Philadelphia, a Cabinet-level position where she strengthened trust in city government through direct and sustained engagement with residents. She has served as a Board Trustee for the Philadelphia Foundation, chairing the Grantmaking Committee and serving on the Investment Committee. She holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania and completed a Postdoctoral fellowship in Molecular Genetics at Jefferson Health. She is recognized as a visionary, collaborative, and equity-driven leader who combines deep scientific expertise with a passion for public service, community empowerment, and creating a more just and inclusive society.
