Her Story

About Nina

I consider myself a poet and a writer. Poetry is my passion and my coping skill, because I unfortunately have been through a lot. What I do is try to express my feelings in the most raw possible way, sometimes through metaphors. I try to inspire people to see through the lens of a woman, through the lens of someone who has been suffering. My goal is for other women as well, or other people to see, oh yes, that is exactly how I feel, this is exactly what I'm going through. Through my poetry, I make people feel understood. I basically give voice to words people cannot word for themselves. I started in 2021 when I was in the hospital because I had some health issues. I jotted something down, and we were in a circle, and I read it out loud, and everybody pointed at me and said, she's a poet. After that, I just started to write poems every time I feel a little bit intense or feel a certain way. A lot of people have identified with it. I'm also working on writing my own book right now - I've written two chapters and it's going to be a book about resilience. I have a good pen, a good writing style, and I love writing. Anything that is writing involved, I love it.

01What do you attribute your success to?

The word successful, it depends what you mean by successful. Successful for me means having peace of mind. Successful for me means finding peace, loving what you do, and I definitely love what I do. And for me, everything is God. I'm humble, I'm a very humble person. I try not to say, hey, I did all of that, it's all me. No. Because every time there is an opportunity, I believe it comes from God. Every time something aligns with me, I believe it comes from God. Everything good, it's coming from God. So the qualities that come toward me, that's my secret: prayers, faith. That's basically it.
