About Nirmla

Nirmla Johnson is a healthcare entrepreneur and home care executive whose career reflects a unique blend of expertise in communications, marketing, and compassionate caregiving. A graduate of Communication Arts with a major in Advertising and Public Relations Management in the Philippines, she began her professional journey in public relations, banking, advertising, and insurance. Her early accomplishments included managing public relations for a major brewery, resolving high-level banking client concerns, leading product launches for Canon and Casio, and establishing the personal lines division for AIG in the Philippines. These experiences built a strong foundation in leadership, strategic communication, and client relationship management before she transitioned into the healthcare industry after immigrating to the United States.

After relocating to the U.S. more than two decades ago, Johnson started from the ground up in senior care facilities, where her dedication, leadership, and ability to connect with people quickly earned her greater responsibilities in staffing and management. Drawing on her experience and passion for serving others, she founded her own caregiving agency, which now provides home care and live-in care services across Illinois and multiple other states. She has built the organization around a philosophy of integrity, carefully matching caregivers with clients, investing in caregiver recruitment and culturally informed training, and maintaining transparent employment practices that prioritize both quality care and employee well-being.

Beyond running a successful business, Johnson is recognized for her unwavering commitment to serving families who often fall outside traditional healthcare assistance programs. She frequently provides pro bono care, transports clients to chemotherapy appointments, and helps families across multiple states find affordable caregiving solutions. Rather than focusing solely on profitability, she has intentionally structured her agency to charge families less than many competitors while offering caregivers better compensation and support. Guided by the principles of honesty, transparency, and treating every client as though they were her own family, Johnson continues to make a lasting impact on the home care industry and the communities she serves.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Nirmla

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my passion for what I do and my unwavering dedication to giving my best in every opportunity. Staying committed, continuously learning, and maintaining a strong work ethic have allowed me to grow both personally and professionally.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to always be true, honest, and transparent. In a service industry where families entrust you with the care of their loved ones, integrity is essential to building trust and lasting relationships within the community.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Work hard and do not cut corners. Be true to what you can deliver. Put yourself in the shoes of the caregiver and the client before accepting a case. If you cannot provide the quality of care, refer to another agency. View others as collaborators rather than competitors.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Opportunities include the growing aging population of baby boomers who need care but often do not qualify for government subsidies. Challenges include caregiver shortages due to unregulated under-the-table arrangements that lure caregivers away from licensed agencies with cash payments.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Protect your peace above all else. Never engage in unnecessary conflict or drama because the cost of war is not worth the stress. Lead with humility and kindness. Walk away from situations that disturb your peace rather than fighting to prove you are right.
