Her professional focus centers on eliminating unnecessary friction in product design, particularly in payments and mobile banking applications.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Nivedita

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to technology and the invention of computers. Technology has leveled us up and allowed us to move faster in life. Without computers or technology, we would still be using paper maps and things would not be as efficient. It's a double-edged sword though, so sometimes you have to slow down.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I received was to just try it out when switching from developer to designer. I had doubts, but my mentor pushed me saying if you don't try, you'll never know. I did a bootcamp to learn design and how to think about problems before coding them. Otherwise I would have never gone for it.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Take it slow and take your time to explore. Watch videos and learn about subjects like AI. Don't dive in head first. Know how agents are built and respond. Treat AI like somebody smarter than you. Ask smart questions to get smart answers back. Experiment, this is your time.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

My biggest challenge is dealing with friction in products I design. I see people hit a wall using the product, like not being able to submit a form. I love solving that friction and it keeps me up at night. I'm professionally annoyed by unnecessary friction and want to solve it.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Family and learning. I find myself explaining things to my daughter, and if she gets it, that's the best way to explain a problem. It opens up your way of looking at the problem without complicating or overthinking, just thinking of solutions. In work, understanding the problem the same way as your team helps align faster on solutions.
