Her Story
About Noelle
My journey has been from the classroom, really focusing on students who need reading intervention, and that has led me into editorial work, into professional learning, really influencing the voice coming from the teacher into educational publishing and educational technology, to where I am now, which is every day ensuring that teachers are having the most success with implementing our HMH programs. I manage a team where we are just ready to support teachers immediately coming into our community and engaging with us, sharing their success stories, asking questions. I have the pleasure of having created a teacher ambassador group, teacher contributor group for HMH, and so we're creating in real time, in teachers' own time, to bring into our platform. I'm part of a leadership team that is envisioning what's next, ensuring that our users are our number one reason why we continue to improve our platform, but also looking at how we want to continue to look at educational research to support teachers making the most impact with their learners. I had someone post the other day in our community their gratitude, and I remember them saying, Noelle saw something in me that I didn't see in myself. And I think that's one of the biggest gifts that my mentor taught me and gave me throughout my career, being young in my career when I moved from the classroom to New York City to work for Scholastic. He shared two things: never forget who you were as a classroom teacher, teachers are gonna always want and appreciate that. And then, because he saw something in me that I did not see, I just thought I'm doing what I'm supposed to, he nurtured that in me to be able to see that in others, and I'm grateful that where I am in my career, I'm paying it forward.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received came from my mentor when I was young in my career and moved from the classroom to New York City to work for Scholastic. He shared two things with me. First, he said never forget who you were as a classroom teacher, because teachers are gonna always want and appreciate that. And then, because he saw something in me that I did not see, I just thought I'm doing what I'm supposed to, he nurtured that in me to be able to see that in others. I'm grateful that where I am in my career, I'm paying it forward.
