Norena Sullivan, MHI, BPS, LPN, SRN, leverages her Epic certification and healthcare informatics expertise to lead the design, implementation, and support of clinical information system solutions. With a blend of creativity, analytical skill, and a team-focused approach, she drives patient centered outcomes and guides teams through complex projects. Her experience includes healthcare quality management, grievance and appeals oversight, and clinical informatics consulting, where she trained physicians and staff on EMR systems, workflow improvement, and regulatory compliance. She holds a Master’s in Health Informatics from Purdue University and a Bachelor’s in Computer Science with a minor in Biological Sciences from Roosevelt University. What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the incredible influence of my family. My late uncle Carl, with his unwavering passion for knowledge, was a major source of inspiration for me. I am also deeply grateful for the guidance and support of my grandmother and parents, whose encouragement and example have shaped the person I am today.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is that to be a great leader, you must create leaders. This insight has guided me to focus on empowering and developing others, helping them reach their full potential while fostering a strong, collaborative team.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is simple: believe in yourself and consistently take steps toward your dreams every day. Progress may be gradual, but persistence and self-confidence are key to achieving your goals.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest opportunities in my field right now is the growing influence of social media and technology, which allow for greater reach, connection, and innovation. At the same time, there are challenges, including barriers such as limited access to education, financial constraints, and difficulties in effective advertising. Navigating these challenges while leveraging emerging opportunities is essential for growth and success.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are my faith in God, integrity, and honesty. These principles guide my decisions, shape how I interact with others, and ensure that I approach every situation with sincerity and purpose.
