Nushrat Bushra, MA, CASAC-T is an emerging behavioral health professional specializing in addiction counseling and developmental support. She currently works full-time at West Midtown Medical Group, where she provides comprehensive addiction counseling services, including one-on-one client sessions, weekly group facilitation, and support for medication adherence and reinstatement. Additionally, she serves as a Registered Behavior Technician at Applied ABC, where she applies evidence-based behavioral interventions to support clients’ growth and well-being. Nushrat’s approach emphasizes empathy, authenticity, and building strong therapeutic connections, ensuring clients feel supported throughout their recovery journey.

A first-generation immigrant from Bangladesh, Nushrat earned dual Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Psychology with a concentration in Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counseling (CASAC) from The City College of New York. Her academic and early-career journey includes multiple internships and fellowships across hospital, pharmacy, and clinic settings, as well as recognition through scholarships and inclusion on the Dean’s List. Prior to entering the behavioral health field, she gained valuable experience in education through her role as a substitute paraprofessional with the New York City Department of Education. Alongside her professional work, Nushrat is a passionate artist and advocate, using creative expression as a lens for therapy and community engagement, and continues to dedicate herself to supporting the recovery and mental wellness of the communities she serves.

I attribute my success to my upbringing, which instilled in me resilience, determination, and a strong work ethic from an early age. These early lessons have guided my professional journey, shaping my commitment to serving others with integrity, dedication, and a genuine desire to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to never give up. No matter the challenges or setbacks, persistence and determination are what allow you to grow, learn, and ultimately achieve your goals. This mindset has guided me through my academic and professional journey, reminding me to stay focused, resilient, and committed to making a meaningful impact in the work I do.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Best career advice received: be someone who is there when people are in need emotionally, spiritually, or physically. Attributes success to upbringing, hard work, and education. Cites time management and self-care as ongoing challenges.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are integrity, authenticity, and honesty. I strive to approach every interaction with transparency and sincerity, building trust and meaningful connections with others. These principles guide how I make decisions, support clients, and navigate both professional and personal challenges, ensuring that I remain true to my commitments and to myself.
