Her Story

About Nyamal

Nyamal Dei serves as the Founder and Executive Director of Kondial Kel International, an organization she established in 2013 during her time at NDSU and formally registered as a 501c3 in 2017. Holding a Master's degree in public health from NDSU, Dei applies her expertise as a health educator to address critical community needs, including mental health advocacy, youth empowerment, and support for single mothers and refugees navigating local systems. Her work encompasses grant writing, organizing the annual International Women's Day event in Fargo that draws hundreds of attendees from diverse backgrounds, and preserving language and culture. In 2022, Dei achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Black woman elected to the Fargo Board of Education, where she advocated for behavioral health and student safety until her term ended in June. She continues to lead efforts in community leadership and is running for state senate, drawing on her personal journey from a war zone in South Sudan to the United States in 1995 to inspire and empower others.
