Her Story
About Octavia
I am a Principal Consultant at Revita Works Consulting, having just pivoted to consulting this year after more than 20 years of operations experience. My most recent role was serving as Executive Director of Tempe Community Council, a nonprofit where I worked for close to 8 years in that role and 10 years overall with the organization. I was the first African American to serve as Executive Director of Tempe Community Council, which stands as my most notable professional achievement. Before that, I was Deputy Director with the City of Tempe's Human Services Department. My areas of expertise include operations, capacity building for nonprofits and small businesses, as well as partnerships and mergers. I really wanted to go into work each day with a focused mission on making impact, which is what inspired me to get into this industry.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to persistence and really just remembering all of the things that my mother, who's a strong woman, strong, independent woman, really instilled in me. In terms of no matter what room I walk into, I am just as valuable as anyone else in that room.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Give yourself the opportunity to explore your options. Take on those projects. Say yes to those activities that take you out of your comfort zone.
