Her Story
About Olivia
I've always been interested in art since I was a child. In high school, I attended a graphic design academy and realized I could turn what I did on the side, drawing digitally, into an actual career. I continued with that through the academy and earned my degree in graphic design and visual arts. I got my start with an internship at Spicy Broccoli Media in Sydney, Australia, which is where I'm from. From there, I landed my first official job at Vista Print Australia, and my career just snowballed. I've worked through a couple of jobs, and the longest I've been at is Cotton Holdings, my current position for 7 years. Now I do everything from graphic design to experiential design, leading the creative vision for major events like the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. I'm currently working on getting an interior design certificate to merge the two disciplines and continue growing in the experiential design space.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
It's hard work, especially if you're going into the event-driven side where I've landed with my career. You just have to be strong and confident in yourself and your skills, and just go at it, because there will definitely be naysayers. There will definitely be people who are just like, oh, you know, just girls doing things that maybe they shouldn't be doing. But you have to be strong and be confident in yourself and your skills, and definitely try to teach yourself on the side for different things, depending on what your actual skill set is.
