Her Story

About Olivia

I started my business on December 19th, 2019, the same day I was in a devastating head-on collision. I was working as a manager at a rental car company when I picked up a car that smelled like pure gasoline. I ignored my intuition, and the fumes made me pass out behind the wheel, causing a head-on collision. When I woke up in the hospital, my knee was split open to the point you could see the bone. I spent months in the hospital learning how to walk again. The nurses kept telling me how glad they were that I was alive and that I didn't end up on the fourth floor, the brain-dead unit. At the time, I had a young daughter and was a sole parent. I couldn't get her anything for Christmas. I went to Penn State for business, so I have a business background. The only gift I was able to give her was an LLC. I didn't want to be in a position where I wasn't able to take care of her. We started the business off in the hospital, shipping out t-shirts at first to get people interested and build our social media presence. As soon as I got out of the hospital, we learned how to make lip gloss and prepared for different vendor events. By the grace of God, we're still doing it today. We've expanded from making lip gloss to teaching people how to make lip gloss, and now we have STEM programs that we're marketing to schools. We went from a hospital bed to having our own store location. The company is called By Noel, and our STEM program option is The Lip Gloss Lab, where people can come in and make their own lip glosses. We just had our Love Sealed event for parents and daughters to teach about loving yourself and self-love first, preparing yourself for the road ahead.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to just getting started, even when I had nothing. I couldn't walk, I didn't have anything, I just got started with the idea from my hospital bed. I want people to know to just get started. If other people can feel motivated from my experiences to be able to just get started and do it, before they look up, they'll be doing the same thing - starting from one product, now you have programs. By the grace of God, we're still doing it today.
