Inspired early in her career by Woodrow Wilson's Politics-Administration Dichotomy, she pursued a Master of Public Administration from Clark Atlanta University, graduating around 2010, and has since channeled that academic foundation into a meaningful career dedicated to public service. Currently serving as a Technical Advisor at the Internal Revenue Service. She specializes in unified communication programs, including voice and video conferencing platforms, where she provides both strategic and technical advisory support to ensure seamless organizational operations. In her day-to-day work, Akala is driven by a commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence. She is known for identifying process inefficiencies, conducting root cause analyses, and translating complex technical findings into actionable strategies. A disciplined documentarian by practice, she maintains detailed records of her contributions and leverages performance metrics to inform decisions and measure impact. 01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to consistency — showing up and delivering quality work regardless of who is watching. I make it a practice to document my daily activities and the value I contribute through a personal tracker. I rely on metrics to ground my performance in facts rather than assumptions, and I continuously embrace new technologies, including AI, to analyze my focus areas and drive improvement.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is to never stop learning and to remain consistent in adding value. Over time, people will recognize the quality and dedication behind your work. That principle has stayed with me throughout my career and continues to guide how I approach every role and responsibility.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this field is to document everything — every task completed, every skill applied, every outcome delivered. Use a daily tracker to build a factual record of your contributions. Be open-minded and proactive about learning new technologies, including AI, to analyze your performance and identify where you can have the greatest impact. Your documentation becomes your evidence of value.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values I hold most closely are accountability, consistency, and efficiency. Accountability means grounding my work in data and facts rather than assumptions or perceptions. Consistency ensures that I show up the same way every day, contributing to a collaborative team environment free of silos. Efficiency drives me to go beyond the minimum — to proactively add value and deliver fast, high-quality service to every customer I serve.
