She values grit, resilience, and her faith in God, which help her persist through challenges, and she advises young women entering the field to ask questions, seek genuine mentorship, and build connections with senior professionals.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Onisha
01What do you attribute your success to?
My success comes from my family and parents who immigrated to the United States when I was young. They started over completely without speaking the language, worked odd jobs and went to school at night to give me better opportunities. Watching them work so hard and still make sure I had a happy childhood inspires me to take full advantage of every opportunity I have here.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Ask questions and seek mentorship without being afraid that questions might seem silly. Find a core group of people higher up than you who you genuinely connect with both professionally and personally. These mentors can provide guidance on climbing ranks, preparing for promotions, and making key connections that help you advance in your career and industry.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Grit and resilience are key values for me. Having the willingness to dig in and do what needs to be done no matter how hard or painful it is, and getting back up after failures or no's. My faith in God is also very important because it helps me maintain that grit and resilience.
