Her Story
About Orly
Orly is the Founder and Owner of Orly Diamonds, which she established in 2008. With a background in business and the diamond industry, she built her company around a highly personal approach to fine jewelry. She specializes in diamonds, custom design, jewelry redesign, and private client consultation, often working with families through engagements, anniversaries, milestone celebrations, and heirloom pieces.
For Orly, jewelry is deeply emotional. Her philosophy is rooted in relationships, trust, integrity, and reinvention. Many clients have been with her for years, and she now works with multiple generations of the same families. As Orly Diamonds enters its next chapter at the historic Hotel du Pont in Wilmington, she continues to evolve the business while preserving the personal connection that has always defined it.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Orly
01What do you attribute your success to?
Relationships, trust, resilience, and the willingness to evolve. I have always believed that people remember how you make them feel. In jewelry, clients trust you with some of the most emotional moments of their lives, and I never take that trust for granted. My success has come from putting relationships first, staying true to who I am, and continually reinventing the business as both the industry and my clients’ needs have changed.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Never build a business around a transaction — build it around a relationship. Products can be copied and trends change, but trust, reputation, and the way you treat people become your legacy.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Trust your instincts. Don’t be afraid to evolve, and never underestimate the importance of relationships. Learn your craft, protect your reputation, and remember that the way you treat people follows you everywhere you go.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The jewelry industry is changing rapidly as consumers become more educated, more digitally connected, and more selective about where they spend. I see that as an opportunity. Clients increasingly want authenticity, transparency, personalization, and a relationship with someone they trust. Technology may change how people discover jewelry, but the emotional significance of jewelry — and the value of knowledgeable, personal service — remains incredibly powerful.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Relationships, trust, integrity, and reinvention. Jewelry is deeply personal, and I believe caring about the person behind the purchase matters just as much as the piece itself. I value loyalty, authenticity, family, and treating people with respect. In both business and life, I believe your reputation is built one relationship at a time.
