Her Story

About Ozioma

Ozioma Ozioko is a mechanical engineer and Ph.D. student at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), where she conducts research focused on improving photovoltaic (PV) performance, thermal management, system efficiency, and the lifespan of solar energy technologies. She earned her Master of Engineering and bachelor's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, graduating with First Class honors at the master's level. Her doctoral research explores innovative solar energy solutions, including building-integrated photovoltaics, with the broader goal of advancing sustainable energy and addressing electricity challenges in Nigeria.

Ozioma has also gained valuable industry experience in advanced engineering and semiconductor technology. During her eight-month internship as a Mechanical Design Engineer at ASML, she contributed to projects involving precision actuator motors and photolithography systems, analyzing thermal degradation, reliability limitations, and potential design improvements. She also evaluated brazing alloys for precision actuators and collaborated with cross-functional teams to develop engineering and manufacturing solutions. Her experience at ASML strengthened her interest in semiconductors and next-generation technologies, complementing her academic research in energy and thermal management.

Beyond research and engineering, Ozioma is committed to leadership, mentorship, and expanding opportunities for women in STEM. She has served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at RPI and as Board Treasurer of the Black Graduate Students Association. She has also volunteered with organizations, including the Society of Women Engineers and the International Human Rights Commission. Her achievements include scholarships from African Women in STEM and the National Society of Black Engineers, as well as recognition for her innovation and entrepreneurial thinking at RPI's Catalyst Incubator / Ignite Activator Innovation Showcase.

As a Lean Green Belt-certified engineer and active STEM advocate, Ozioma is building a career at the intersection of sustainable energy, advanced engineering, and semiconductor technology, with aspirations to develop impactful solar energy solutions in the future.
