Her Story
About Paige
I've been in the multifamily industry for 17 years, and I truly started from the ground up. I began as a leasing agent and did that for about a year before getting promoted to assistant manager, a role I held for a little over 10 years. From there, I promoted to property manager before leaving the actual property management operations side. About 5 months ago, I transitioned to my current role as Business Development Manager at Native Smart Properties, a property technology company that provides access control and property automation for multifamily housing. In my current position, I survey properties in need - what we call soft properties that have been open for a period of time, losing occupancy, and struggling to retain residents. I give them proposals for what we can do as far as access control and home automation for individual units and the community itself, which adds value and helps with resident retention. One of my proudest achievements has been helping at least 8 people get promoted under me. Training and development with team members has been a passion of mine, and I've been involved in talent development as a side role with at least 3 of the property management groups I worked for. I'm also active in professional organizations including the Texas Apartment Association, the Houston Apartment Association, and the National Heart Association. I've done DEI leadership work, including for the National Group for Greystar. Outside of work, I live on a lake and love kayaking and water sports, and I enjoy crafting with my Cricut, making personalized items for people.

Ten minutes with Paige
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to never stopping learning. I never think I know everything. Obviously, things are always shifting, and it's a very fluid industry, as most industries are, especially with technology. That's mainly it - never stop learning, and just be patient with people, and have empathy.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My biggest point and key of advice is that nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care. You can't just keep preaching how much knowledge you have - they're not going to absorb it until they actually know that you're telling them because you want the best for them.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The opportunities in my field right now are huge. We've only touched about 3% of the multifamily housing market as far as launching not just our business, but this smart home technology business in general. I always try to put it in a smaller picture - you don't go to a hotel, like a boutique hotel or a really nice hotel, and expect them to actually hand you a stick metal key, right? So all of the apartments in Houston, especially the market that I'm in right now, need to kind of just step it up. That's definitely the big opportunity we have right now. Some of the challenges are obviously the budgets they're working with - getting over that hump to help the owners and asset teams see the benefit of making that upgrade and that change.
