About Pamela
Pamela Ammons is a dedicated Christian mental health counselor who retired from 30 years of international missionary service but continues her work supporting individuals in need. Her overseas experience took her to the Amazon jungle, the Andes Mountains, Pakistan, Myanmar, and Cambodia, where she worked in prisons and small villages. Upon returning to the United States, she completed her degree, including an internship at Duke and mentorship from Dr. Williams at Wake Forest after attending Gardner-Webb University, where she also met her husband of nearly 50 years. She currently serves as a counselor at the York Mental Health Adult Acute Psychiatric Ward at Wellspan in York, Pennsylvania, and provides support through her local church while cherishing time with her children and grandbabies. She recently published her first book, Encounters with God at the world's edge, drawn from journals spanning her experiences, and remains grounded in her faith as she helps others find hope and healing.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Pamela
01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
The Lord will go before you and be with you and never leave you or forsake you. Be patient because going through difficult times gives more courage and hope. If you never step out that first time, you're just stuck. Your identity is in what you have inside, not what others say about you.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Both opportunities and challenges. The outside stuff is going to come at you, so you have to be strong inside. Hope changes the way our brain actually functions.
