Her Story

About Pari

I'm currently an incoming sophomore in college majoring in aerospace engineering. My journey into this field began when I was a little kid and my uncle told me about Kalpana Chawla and her adventures in the space industry. That really inspired me, and on top of that, my uncle was an aeronautical engineer himself, which really guided me to go into aerospace engineering. During my high school years, I served as team leader of an FTC Robotics team, and that year I was the only one that actually had experience in robotics, so I had to guide the whole team and mentor them myself. I'm currently working in a lab for FPGA, and although I've signed the contract and everything, I'll start next semester. I have a mentor who saw potential in me and liked how I can work in very harsh environments, like with non-working teammates, and they really liked my thought process. I'm actively seeking internships to gain more experience and have applied to NASA. I'm also working on a project with Lombok, Indonesia, and I enjoy building things in my free time with Arduino kits. Outside of academics, I play ultimate frisbee and enjoy amateur stargazing. I'm planning on starting my own business as an insurance company on the side as a source of income.

Ten minutes with Pari

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I've received is to keep on doing what I'm doing at this moment. My mentor, who I'm working with in her lab for FPGA, really saw the potential in me and how I can work in very harsh environments, like with non-working teammates. She really liked my thought process, and that's why she wanted to become my mentor. She encouraged me to keep going, which has been really meaningful to me.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge I'm seeing right now is finding a good internship that would hire a freshman or incoming sophomore in college. Companies want more experienced people, so getting more experience under my belt is really important. That's been the main obstacle I'm facing as I try to break into the field.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Some of the values I bring from my personal life into my professional work are working calmly, even in stressful environments, and not overthrowing everything. I also value teamwork and team building. My father has taught me about management, particularly how to manage income and household matters, and I apply those management principles to my work as well. These values help me stay grounded and effective, whether I'm working on projects or leading teams.
