Her Story
About Patricia
Patricia Alvarez de los Cobos is the Founder, President, and CEO of Energy Communications Corporation, a three-time Emmy Award-winning multicultural marketing, media, and production company serving Southern California and the U.S.-Mexico border region.
Born in Mexico City to an American mother and a Mexican father, Patricia has dedicated more than 37 years to helping organizations connect authentically with Hispanic audiences. In 1989, she moved to the United States to represent Televisa's television stations serving the San Diego-Tijuana market. At a time when many advertisers had yet to recognize the economic and cultural influence of Hispanic consumers, Patricia helped educate agencies and businesses on the value of multicultural marketing and community engagement.
Recognizing the need for reliable market intelligence, she collaborated with local media partners and advertising agencies to conduct some of the region's earliest Hispanic market research studies. The findings helped open doors with major advertising agencies and brands throughout California and contributed to broader recognition of the Hispanic market's growing purchasing power and influence.
Under Patricia's leadership, Energy Communications Corporation grew from a startup into a respected communications firm serving more than 130 clients and generating millions of dollars in annual revenue. Throughout her career, she has advised corporations, healthcare organizations, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies on bilingual communications, community outreach, media strategy, and multicultural marketing.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Patricia has remained deeply committed to community service and civic leadership. She has served on numerous nonprofit, healthcare, business, and community boards, advocating for education, economic development, healthcare access, and greater representation of diverse communities. Her leadership and contributions have earned numerous honors, including California Woman of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Awards, multiple Emmy Awards, and recognition as one of San Diego's most influential Latino leaders.
Today, Patricia continues to lead Energy Communications Corporation while serving as a trusted advisor, community advocate, and champion for inclusive communication. She believes that media has the power not only to inform, but also to educate, inspire, and strengthen communities.

Ten minutes with Patricia
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success first and foremost to God, who has blessed me throughout my life and career by opening doors, providing opportunities, and surrounding me with wonderful people. Faith has always been my foundation and my source of strength during both the good times and the challenging ones.
I also attribute my success to my team. No one succeeds alone, and I have been fortunate to work alongside dedicated, talented, and loyal individuals who have shared my vision and commitment to excellence. Some members of our team have been with us for more than 25 and even 37 years, and together we have built not only a successful company but also a family.
Finally, I believe that success comes from hard work, integrity, continuous learning, and genuinely caring about the people and communities we serve. Throughout my career, my goal has never been simply to grow a business, but to make a positive difference in the lives of others. When you focus on helping people succeed, success often follows naturally.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I have ever received is to never stop learning from others.
No matter how much experience we have, there is always something new to learn from the people around us. Some of life's greatest lessons come from listening to colleagues, mentors, clients, employees, community leaders, and even those who think differently than we do.
Throughout my career, I have learned that staying curious, keeping an open mind, and being willing to adapt are essential for personal and professional growth. The world is constantly changing, and those who continue learning are better prepared to embrace new opportunities and overcome challenges.
I believe that humility and a willingness to learn have been among the most important factors in my success.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice would be: Believe in yourself, work hard, and never let anyone tell you that you cannot achieve your goals. Success is built one step at a time through perseverance, integrity, and continuous learning. Be willing to listen, learn from others, and embrace change. Most importantly, build relationships, treat people with respect, and remember that you reputation is one of your most valuable assets. Opportunities may not always come immediately, but this is a country of opportunities and you need to stay aware when they come. Remain committed and passionate about what you do, doors will open.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges is keeping pace the rapid evolution of technology and rhetoric way people consume media. Audiences are fragmented across television, streaming, social media, podcast, and digital platforms, requiring businesses to communicate in more strategic and meaningful ways.
At the same time, this presents tremendous opportunities. organizations now have more ways than ever to connect directly with their audiences and tell authentic stories. The Hispanic Market continues to grow in influence and purchasing power, creating significant opportunities for businesses willing to invest in culturally relevant communication and community engagement. Companies that embrace diversity and truly understand their audiences will be best positioned for long-term success.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Faith, Integrity, family, service, and respect are the values that guide both my professional and persona life. My daily inspiration comes from making a positive difference in the community and helping others succeed. I believe in working hard, treating people with kindness, honoring commitments, and always looking for ways to contribute, I also believe that success is most meaningful when it is shared with others. Whether through media, education, community involvement, or mentoring, I strive to leave a positive impact and help create opportunities for future generations.
