I once chased down a guy trying to steal my bag at a Nigerian airport. He dropped it and ran when he saw me coming. Moral: pack a bag so heavy you can outrun the thief!

Her Story

About Patricia

Patricia LeGrand is a dedicated community leader, public servant, and Retired Senior Buy/Planner. She is currently running for North Carolina Senate District 10 and serves as First Vice President of the Johnston County Senior Democrats. Patricia also co-leads the Johnston County Chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby, where she advocates for environmental sustainability, and has been a committed foster with the Maggie Society Dog Rescue and Rehabilitation for over nine years. Her leadership and service reflect a lifelong commitment to making a meaningful impact on her community.

Patricia’s career has spanned multiple industries and continents. She began in IT design and database development for Petroleum Information, where she spent over a decade designing systems for foreign oil-producing countries and traveled to Nigeria, Tunisia, and Indonesia to train personnel—a role that required courage during a period of global instability. Following a relocation to California, she joined Miles Laboratories, which evolved into Bayer, Talecris, and ultimately Grifols, where she spent 19 years in various capacities, including customer service supervisor, data input for the National Donor Deferral Registry, and Senior Buyer in IT procurement. Her work involved researching companies, preparing RFPs, coordinating with IT teams and suppliers, and managing procurement software, culminating in her retirement in 2012.

Since retiring, Patricia has devoted herself to civic engagement and political leadership. Although she had not originally planned to run for office, she was called the night before the filing deadline to run for NC Senate District 10 when no other candidates had stepped forward. She accepted, bringing her wealth of professional experience, global perspective, and dedication to service to the political arena. Through her combined work in politics, community advocacy, and animal welfare, Patricia continues to champion causes that improve the lives of her neighbors and strengthen her community.

She cites artificial intelligence as both an opportunity and a challenge: potential job displacement for some programmers, but increased speed and capability for businesses.
She also highlighted the energy implications of new technologies (AI/datacenters require significant electricity), and discussed solar and smaller nuclear plants as part of the energy conversation.
