Ten minutes with Patryce
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success first and foremost to God, whose guidance and strength have carried me through every challenge and inspired many of the ideas and opportunities along my journey. I am also deeply influenced by the strong women who helped shape me, particularly my great-grandmother and grandmother, whose example taught me resilience, perseverance and the importance of moving forward. Throughout my life, I have also been inspired by people from all walks of life, including individuals I may have never met personally. Sometimes a simple word of encouragement from a stranger, a member of the community or even someone on social media can make a lasting impact. I believe we never truly know what someone else may be experiencing, which is why I try to be an encouragement to others and remind them that they can keep going, overcome challenges and achieve what they set out to accomplish.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is simply, don’t quit. Failure is inevitable, but it can also be one of our greatest sources of motivation and an opportunity to learn, grow and do better the next time. There will be moments when you fall, make mistakes or feel like giving up, but once you understand your “why,” it becomes the motivation that helps you keep moving forward. I have learned that it is okay to make mistakes and experience setbacks; what matters most is that you get back up, learn from the experience and continue moving forward.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the accounting and bookkeeping industry is to first understand your “why.” Take the time to identify what genuinely motivates you and what you are passionate about before deciding what services you want to provide or what type of business you want to build. Everyone has different strengths, but lasting success comes from combining those strengths with a purpose that truly matters to you. If you pursue something solely for the money, it can be difficult to sustain that commitment over time. Once you understand your purpose, you can build an organization that reflects your values, talents and vision. I also encourage women to surround themselves with the right people, continue learning and remain adaptable, particularly as technology and AI continue to reshape the accounting industry. When people recognize your passion, authenticity and commitment to serving others, they are more likely to trust you and want to work with you because of the value you provide, not simply because of the price. Ultimately, understanding your “why” gives you the foundation to build a meaningful career and an organization that reflects the impact you want to make.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is finding and retaining qualified employees while also providing competitive benefits. At the same time, I believe the opportunities are tremendous because we are in an environment where people are increasingly seeking education and guidance on how to improve their financial situations, save money and make informed decisions. This creates meaningful opportunities to educate and empower others. We are also seeing significant changes at the administrative and organizational levels, including funding challenges, grant losses and workforce reductions, which create a greater need for experienced professionals who can help organizations understand these changes and identify practical ways to move forward. For women-led organizations like mine, this represents an opportunity to use our knowledge and experience to support organizations navigating uncertainty, provide education and solutions, and help them recognize that there are strategies and resources available to overcome challenges. The need is there; the opportunity now is to make sure organizations know that we are here to help.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are appreciation, responsibility and investing in people. I believe an organization is only as strong as the people who contribute to its success, which is why I place a high value on supporting and taking care of my employees. I want my team to know that I genuinely appreciate their contributions and recognize the role they play in helping the organization grow. That includes providing competitive compensation, quality health benefits, retirement resources and life insurance, while also creating opportunities for education and professional development. Rising costs make it increasingly challenging for businesses to provide these benefits while remaining sustainable, but I believe taking care of employees is an important responsibility. I also value education and believe we need to be more intentional about teaching organizations how to hire effectively, identify the right candidates and build strong teams. Ultimately, I want to create a workplace where people feel valued, supported and equipped to succeed.
