Paula Beadle

Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Sponsorship Marketing Association
Bainbridge Island, WA 98110

Paula Beadle is a sponsorship marketing executive, founder, and industry connector with more than 25 years of experience across brands, properties, agencies, and media. Over the course of her career, she developed a 360-degree perspective of the sponsorship ecosystem, working on strategy, partnerships, and revenue development for sports, entertainment, and live event organizations. She also founded and led Caravel Marketing, a sponsorship consultancy that specialized in building strategic partnerships and delivering measurable growth for clients across national and global platforms.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, she identified a major gap in the U.S. sponsorship landscape: the absence of a unified professional association for the industry. In response, she founded the Sponsorship Marketing Association in 2022 to connect and elevate professionals across the entire ecosystem, including brands, agencies, properties, and service providers. Through SMA, she launched industry-wide programming such as the Sponsorship Mastery Summit, designed to provide education, networking, and hands-on learning experiences, while also creating a central professional community for the field.

Today, Paula Beadle leads SMA as its Founder and CEO, focused on strengthening collaboration, advancing professional development, and elevating standards across sponsorship marketing. Her leadership emphasizes mentorship, inclusion, and industry connection, reflected in initiatives like advisory boards, training programs, and awards that recognize excellence. She is also active in broader civic and sports leadership through board service and continues to advocate for building stronger pathways for talent development and meaningful partnership innovation within the industry.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to identifying early in my career, over 30 years ago in sponsorship marketing, where my strengths could have the greatest impact and committing to elevating the industry to a higher standard of excellence. My experience across brands, properties, agencies, and media has given me a 360-degree perspective that allows me to simplify complex challenges and drive growth through practical, creative solutions. In 2022, I brought this vision to life by launching the nation’s first Sponsorship Marketing Association to connect the ecosystem and foster professional development, community, and collaboration. Ultimately, my success is grounded in clarity of purpose, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to advancing excellence across the field.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to never remain stagnant in a role that no longer challenges me. I’ve learned that when growth is no longer available in a current position, it’s important to seek out new opportunities or environments that continue to push me forward. I also value the idea that, when necessary, I can create my own space—carving out paths that align with my ambitions, strengths, and long-term potential.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise young women entering the industry to intentionally surround themselves with strong mentors and inspiring leaders, as the people you choose to learn from can profoundly shape your personal and professional growth. It’s important to stay grounded in core values such as trust, grit, and a strong work ethic, which are essential for long-term success. I also encourage women not to hesitate in asking for help, since growth often happens through guidance, support, and collaboration. By building a thoughtful network and staying true to their values, they can navigate their careers with confidence and thrive.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Some of the biggest challenges in sponsorship marketing include navigating a rapidly evolving landscape where brands increasingly expect clear, measurable ROI and more authentic, meaningful engagement. There is also the ongoing need to bring greater cohesion to a fragmented industry and establish more consistent standards across brands, properties, agencies, and partners. At the same time, I see significant opportunity in elevating the profession by providing education, community, and recognition for those working in the field. By strengthening connections and advancing a shared standard of excellence, we have the ability to help shape the future of sponsorship marketing and drive meaningful, sustainable growth across the industry.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I prioritize trust and honesty as the foundation of both my personal and professional relationships. A strong work ethic, accountability, and dedication guide how I approach every responsibility I take on, while passion and tenacity keep me moving forward even through challenges. Optimism helps me stay focused on progress and possibilities rather than obstacles, and I am intentional each day about how I show up and how I can make a meaningful impact. At the same time, I recognize that self-care is essential to sustaining long-term effectiveness, so I make space to recharge through activities like pickleball, golf, and hiking. This balance allows me to stay grounded, focused, and fully present in all areas of my life.
