Her Story

About Paulina

I went to film school in UC Santa Cruz in California after finishing high school in Mexico and community college in Chula Vista south of San Diego. After graduating, I went back to San Diego and decided to work in television for steady income, starting at Univision then moving to NBC Telemundo. I later got a job in Colorado as creative manager. My career has primarily been in film and documentary, with television as the way I make income. I've been producing for 20 years, officially 12 years in television since 2014.

Ten minutes with Paulina

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to not giving up and always trying to keep growing and learning. I never feel comfortable staying in one place and take advantage of being alive to do more things, though I recognize women tend not to rest enough.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Stay on your own path and focus on it without comparing yourself to others. It's easy to feel we're not doing enough when seeing others' achievements, but results take time and staying focused on your path is key.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't lose your own vision and voice even when working for a big company. Keep nourishing your creative side for yourself so you can evolve and grow without losing your shine.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The challenge is that linearity is changing with streaming and social media, so we must adapt our media landscape beyond just television. This also creates opportunities to reach more people in creative ways through streaming and social media.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Respect in the work environment is very important. Also responsibility.
