Peggy Samboy is a Denial Management Specialist at AdventHealth in Greater Orlando, where she works in Patient Financial Services handling denials and claims appeals. She reviews insurance denials and discrepancies to secure appropriate reimbursement, ensuring patients are responsible only for the correct portion of their bills. Motivated by a desire to serve others, Peggy combines her analytical skills with her expertise in billing and appeals to relieve patients’ financial burdens and make insurance processes clearer and fairer. Peggy began her healthcare career in patient registration, where for three years she managed check-in and check-out, insurance verification, scheduling, and patient financial responsibilities. She then transitioned into Patient Financial Services, spending four years gaining experience in reimbursement before moving into her current focus on denials and appeals. Her strong performance led to advancement from Reimbursement Specialist to Team Lead, where she oversaw and supported 4–5 representatives, many of whom have grown into leadership roles themselves. Throughout her career, Peggy has demonstrated exceptional problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate across departments to achieve organizational goals. Peggy holds a college degree from her hometown in Colombia, completed a two-year associate program in Medical Billing and Coding in the U.S., and began a Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration in 2019, which she is currently pursuing. Fluent in English and Spanish, she is highly proficient in medical coding and terminology and experienced with systems including Waystar, Cerner, Sunport, NextGen, and Epic. Peggy’s dedication to improving patient experiences and her commitment to professional growth make her a trusted and valued member of her healthcare team.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to following my calling to serve in healthcare, which I began pursuing in 2014. Starting as a Patient Registration Coordinator, I gained firsthand insight into the patient journey before transitioning into financial services for four years. My experience as a Reimbursement Specialist led to a Team Lead role within a year, where I had the privilege of mentoring 4–5 representatives, many of whom have gone on to become leaders themselves. Over the past seven years specializing in denials, I have found deep fulfillment in helping alleviate the stress of medical bills for my community. For me, the purpose is always to help the patient. My advice to young women is to get prepared, get educated, and truly love what you do while genuinely wanting to make a difference in the lives of others.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

- Pursue formal education to prepare for the work.
- Enter the field because you genuinely want to serve others; that passion sustains you through difficult days.
- Tackle problems one patient at a time and focus on purpose-driven work.
