Her Story
About Philicia
I've been in the healthcare staffing industry since 2022, over 4 years now. I didn't even know this field existed until a recruiter reached out to me through LinkedIn from my previous employer, but when I started, I immediately found a knack for it. I have over 7 years of sales and customer service experience, so it really tapped into that. I started out as an account representative at Locum Tenants and quickly grew, getting promoted very quickly, all within the same year of each of my promotions and under the average timeline. Instead of the typical 8 to 9 months, I was promoted each time within 6 months due to my production, customer excellence, and overall account management and team coordination. I became an account executive and had over 7 different states at LT. My biggest accomplishment there was becoming Producer of the Month for the entire company of over 250 producers in my first year, and bringing in over $250,000 worth of GP in one month. In April 2023, I moved to Medix as a Senior Business Development Manager, which was another step up in my career. Medix didn't have a locums division, so my key role was to create their locums division, the work structure, workflow, and operations, and bring knowledge on how locum tenants work within the staffing industry and healthcare. Now I handle 25 states, half of the country, doing day-to-day outreach to health systems and current clients to curate business for our locum tenant staffing services. Staffing in healthcare is a constantly growing industry and one of the industries that's recession-proof, so I know I will continue to be within the healthcare industry as my career, and this is just a starting point.

Ten minutes with Philicia
01What do you attribute your success to?
I really attribute my success to my drive and my overall grit. I am a person that is very financially motivated and goal-oriented, so being able to have the control over what I'm able to gain from my output is really motivational to me. Being able to curate different business relationships and have those client relationships, and just being able to build that has been very rewarding for me. Overall personal success is something that I really do attribute my work ethic to.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is: Don't let this no keep you from the next call. No matter what, if you get a no on this one, then you take away what you could have done better, what could have been adjusted, or why they said no, and apply it to your next call, to your next meeting. You don't just sit and let it weigh down on you, you keep pushing.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
The staffing industry is very female-driven - staffing industries are majority made up of 80% of women. So you're coming into this field having already a network around you. Definitely find out what works best for you, but also learn from others that have been successful in this industry. Even though I didn't have a mentor per se, I was able to look at other successful women in my field and be able to pull from them, learn from them, pull different habits that they do, and be able to input that into my own workflow and allow me to be better in productivity-wise and efficiency. Having the openness and willingness to learn from others and apply that to yourself will help you go far, very quickly in this industry.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges are that we are a very competitive market. There are many locum tenant staffing agencies, so being able to gain the market share is difficult. Also, it's a sales environment, so it can be very stressful sometimes. It's not always as rewarding - there are ups and downs, ebbs and flows, and you just have to continue to push through it. You have to hold on to the fact that everything you do will come back to you, as long as you just keep going, putting the work in, and continue to do the steps.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Wisdom, integrity, and loyalty. Those are my three core values, and I operate my day-to-day on those values, not only in business but also in my personal life. Those three things are something that I really do hold onto in my everyday life.
