Philisa Bennett, Ed.S., GCDF, is an accomplished educational leader and curriculum specialist with over 20 years of experience spanning K–12 education, adult learning, nonprofit leadership, and community development. As the District FLEX Coordinator for Anderson School District 4, she leads a range of initiatives focused on academic achievement, teacher development, career readiness, and social-emotional learning. With a background in English instruction, instructional coaching, and program coordination, she brings a strategic and student-centered approach to educational innovation.

Beyond the classroom, Philisa is a dedicated advocate for equity and opportunity. She has served on multiple nonprofit boards, including the America to Zambia Educational Nonprofit and the Clemson Area African American Museum, where she champions cultural awareness, global education, and social justice. Her work as Marketing Chair for the Shaw Center for Housing & Economic Growth highlights her strengths in strategic planning and community engagement. Internationally, she has supported professional development for educators in Zambia, expanding her impact beyond U.S. borders.

Philisa’s work is grounded in a deep belief that education is a transformative tool for economic mobility and systemic change. Her qualifications include an Education Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction and certification as a Global Career Development Facilitator. Whether facilitating professional development, mentoring at-risk students, or leading curriculum design, Philisa consistently brings vision, resilience, and a commitment to lifelong learning to every endeavor she undertakes.

I attribute my success to the unwavering support and values instilled in me by my parents. Their encouragement, work ethic, and belief in my potential laid the foundation for my personal and professional growth.

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to always be my authentic self. Staying true to who I am has helped me build genuine connections, maintain integrity, and navigate my career with confidence and purpose.

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the industry is to always remember your purpose and stay grounded in who you are. Lead with authenticity—your unique voice and perspective are your greatest strengths.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in education right now is reaching and supporting every student effectively—especially those facing personal or academic struggles. It can be difficult, but it's also what makes the work so meaningful. On the other hand, there are incredible opportunities in the field, from innovative teaching methods to technology integration, all of which can help us better serve students and make a lasting impact.

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me—both professionally and personally—are mental health awareness, social-emotional learning, and the development of real-life skills. I believe these are essential for helping individuals thrive, not just in school or work, but in all aspects of life.
