About Phoebe
Phoebe Haefele serves as a Senior Application Analyst for the Epic Beaker application, where she assists anatomic pathologists in implementing and optimizing clinical workflows within the widely used Epic electronic medical record system. With six years in her current IT role and four years of prior healthcare experience, including time in a clinical laboratory, she has supported system implementations and optimizations at organizations such as NCH in Naples, Florida, and a hospital in the Bay Area. Phoebe completed her degree after beginning her career in the clinical lab, which provides her with valuable insight into pathology workflows. She values honesty and a willingness to remain open to new possibilities while always seeking to learn. Phoebe credits her success to her readiness to take on challenges, avoid complacency, and pursue growth through new projects and certifications.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I am always up for a challenge and do not like getting too comfortable or complacent. I like to get outside my comfort zone because that is how you grow. I am always looking forward at what projects I can be doing next or how I can get a new certification or learn a new area in my field.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
My mom has always said that when having some sort of confrontation or dealing with a difficult person, ask things in the form of a question so that it is not as confrontational. Having a questioning attitude rather than acting like you know everything is important.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Do not be afraid to ask other people for help because everyone is learning as they go even if they have been in the field a long time. It is okay to reach out to resources. Also do not be afraid of trusting your gut and giving professional pushback if a user wants something that will not work technically.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty is important and always being willing to be open to things rather than saying no we can't do that. Being open and always willing to learn without promising too much but looking into it.
