Her Story

About Phoebe

I've been working in accounting for about 10 years and started my own bookkeeping company 3 years ago. Before that, I was working corporately doing coding for a marketing company with my software development degree. After an unpleasant experience during maternity leave, I became a stay-at-home mom for 7 years. When my children started school, a colleague who's an accountant asked me to help with QuickBooks Online because she knew I was good with software. I ended up learning the client's business and taking over all their accounting needs, helping them grow to over 6 figures. That's how I got into the e-commerce space. I'm really good at learning software and recognizing what businesses need to run smoothly, setting up operations so everything is double and triple checked. I love figuring out how to simplify things for e-commerce sellers because all these selling platforms are different with different fees and payout structures. I help them understand their true numbers so they can make better decisions and ensure their books are tax-ready with the best deductions. I mostly work with small e-commerce businesses, both remotely and in person when they're local. I have a desire to help others do their best at whatever they're doing, and if I can play a small part in that, I'm happy.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say always, whatever you're doing or trying to do, do your personal best as if it's for yourself. When I look at my clients, I treat it as if it's my business. I'm not trying to take over, I'm just trying to do the best so that they can do their best. I've seen a lot of people say they're bookkeepers, and then you look at the work they're doing in the books and it's just half-assed. If you're going to get into bookkeeping or accounting or anything financial, just be an honest person who has the right intentions as if it's for you. I wouldn't want somebody treating you a certain way or screwing you over or giving you half work. Do your best, and good things will come to you. Keep learning, always want to learn more. No one knows everything, no one. There's always something you can learn, so really keep up with things and keep learning and see what else can we do.
