Her Story

About Pooja

I have been teaching since 2020. I used to teach IELTS first back in India, but now I've been teaching financial accounting at El Camino College since 2023. I am a supplement instruction coach where the professor teaches the main materials and I handle everything on the backend, including assignments, mock exams, and doubt sessions. My mom used to be a professor, which might be why I feel most like myself when teaching and am really passionate about it.

01What do you attribute your success to?

My failures and situations that have been hard on me. My life has made me what I am. When nobody was there, I had to do it myself.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

There's always a loophole, you just have to find one.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The best teacher is the one who never stops being a curious child.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is keeping students engaged while meeting diverse learning needs. The biggest opportunity is using technology and AI to create more personalized, interactive, and inclusive learning experiences without losing the human connection that great teaching is built on.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that matter most to me are curiosity, empathy, integrity, and lifelong learning. In my work, I strive to create an environment where students feel supported, respected, and encouraged to ask questions. In my personal life, I value honesty, kindness, and continuous growth because I believe we’re always learning, both as educators and as individuals.
