Ten minutes with Poonam
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the strong work ethic and values my parents instilled in me. As immigrants in London, they worked incredibly hard to provide their children with opportunities, emphasizing the importance of education, perseverance, and dedication.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received is to learn not only to give, but also to receive. As lawyers, we should also remember that not everything is an emergency—some things can wait, and maintaining perspective is essential.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the industry is to stop getting in your own way and take the time to understand who you are before deciding what you want to pursue. Stay true to yourself—authenticity is not selfish. Remember that self-discovery is an evolving journey, not a destination.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are honesty, authenticity, kindness, and balance. I believe in making time to genuinely connect with people, while also maintaining perspective, enjoying life, and having fun.
