Her Story

About Praveena

I have spent 21 years in the human resources field, working across various parameters including compensation, recruitment, learning and development, engagement, change management, and mergers and acquisitions. I climbed the pyramid and eventually managed the overall HR team and people management for an organization at a global level. In 2020, I took a planned career break from corporate and started my own HR consultancy, helping MBA students with their career paths, preparing them for campus recruitment, having mock interviews with them, and working as a guest lecturer for management students. When I moved to Houston in December 2024, I took a break to help my children settle into their new environment. During this time, I approached schools and started volunteering, mentoring 8th and 5th graders on their IB projects, specifically on diversity and inclusion-related topics and mental health and workplace-related topics. My main areas of expertise are coaching, mentoring, organizational change, organizational development, and people engagement. I'm not currently working for an organization but continue doing volunteering jobs and community service, which I find incredibly fulfilling.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The first lesson I learned from one of my bosses who was heading HR at a global level in DHL was to just give space to your people. Don't try to be like a bottleneck - just give them space and see what they can do. This has been one of the most impactful pieces of advice in my career.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

For me, ethics is very important, and empathy is very important. Wherever I go, whatever I do, I always believe that results are definitely important - you need to show results in whatever you do. But respect is most important. You cannot achieve results without respect. So my core values are very clear: it's ethics and empathy.
