Her Story

About Prerna

I have been in HR from the last 16 years now. I wanted to be a psychiatrist but switched to human resource management and marketing. I graduated in double major in human resource management and marketing from San Jose State. I ran my restaurant for 8 years, worked at a hospitality company for 8 years becoming HR manager handling multi-state operations. I joined PayCertify as the first HR person setting up everything, then an architectural firm Empty Think for a year. I got my project management certification from UC Berkeley, moved to Washington, worked at Aliko e-commerce, and joined Amazon as senior HRVP supporting robotics R&D with 600+ employees multi-state and in Germany.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Prerna

01What do you attribute your success to?

It was the love for my family, and how I wanted to do something for them. I'm a very curious person who wants to know everything. I wanted to help people empathetically, which is why I pursued HR as the closest thing to being a psychiatrist.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Believe in what you want to be, what you want to do. Please don't let people dictate that you cannot do this just because you're young, or you're a woman. If you want to be an F1 driver, be that. If you want to open your own business, be that.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The first one would be discipline. Learning and be curious about everything. The third one would be empathy towards people around you. Be kind to people, be empathetic towards them.
