Her Story

About Priscilla

I'm a single mom of four, and I kind of stumbled into security. I was working in a warehouse for Amazon, and then I ended up applying for an HR position in 2017. From there, I just continuously was promoted year after year, based off of my work and how quick I was able to learn everything. I've been in account management and operations for about 6 years already. No day is ever the same in my role. It all really depends on the customer and the client. I've covered everything from logistics and distribution, handling cargo theft, risk and mitigation, along with investigations, and also handling security guard services, dealing with disciplinary action, and dealing with the day-to-day operations. My main expertise is definitely risk and mitigation, along with site analysis. If we receive a request for security for specific customers, depending on the customer, we would do a site analysis and basically give our input for physical security or for cyber security if needed. I oversee things like making sure proper access control is there and that the officers are doing the job the way that the client is requesting it to be done.

Ten minutes with Priscilla

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think it's been my drive. Literally every obstacle that I've been given, I've been able to overcome. I think it's just being able to problem solve and kind of have those different outcomes or solutions. When you're given an account and you have absolutely no idea what's supposed to be done, just taking it one day at a time and just seeing what's the best solution. I haven't always been the loudest in the room, but I've been the most knowledgeable. I think that's what's really important. You know, do your research, make sure you know what you're talking about, be able to speak to that, and I think people will gain a lot of respect from that.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would definitely say to trust their instincts. I think in this career field, I've been questioned a lot, and I've been made to feel like sometimes my voice doesn't really matter because it isn't a female voice. And sometimes it's not heard because it's not the loudest in the room. So I don't think you have to be the loudest, you just have to be ahead of the game. Do your research, make sure you know what you're talking about, be able to speak to that, and I think people will gain a lot of respect from that. With me, I haven't always been the loudest in the room, but I've been the most knowledgeable. And I think that's what's really important.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Definitely, I feel like respect. Respect is a big thing. You know, you treat people how you want to be treated. I think that's a big value in how I do business. For me, it doesn't matter who you are, I'm gonna treat everybody the same. And I think sometimes, as a woman in this industry, we don't always get treated the same, so it's important for us to kind of move with a little bit more grace than others.
