Her Story

About Prisha

My career path has been a natural extension of my personal interests. I'm very grateful for the opportunities I've been offered at UCLA and have been able to pursue. Having spent a lot of my younger high school years working in local empowerment and community service in San Diego, whether for the Poway Unified School District or for local government, I gained a greater understanding of how local politics works and what our society truly needs. Upon coming to UCLA, I was very excited to grow that understanding and see it form on a global level, which is what drew me to the United Nations Association, because I could take some of those beginning concepts that I was understanding about the world around me and apply them to broader goals pertaining to global institutions and world peace. My main area of expertise today is project management pertaining to civil justice initiatives. Being able to be part of the very prestigious, diverse, and all-around wonderful academic environment of UCLA has been a very formative experience for me, because I encounter individuals from a variety of backgrounds, different parts of the country or the world. Those interactions shape how I understand the people around me and how I can better understand their perspective of social issues, but also better work with them to address the social issues in our community.

Ten minutes with Prisha

01What do you attribute your success to?

It's truly a lot of things. It's hard to pick just one. I'm very grateful for my mother, who has always been my biggest supporter and pushed me to pursue what I believe in and to pursue my passions. On top of that, I think I was raised with a great emphasis on the value of humility, and I'm very grateful to that, because being able to understand that and to separate my ego from what I do allows me to be more effective at what I pursue.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Jump in the river. That was a piece of advice I had received from one of my dad's mentors, actually. And that is a piece of advice that has enabled me to stop overthinking, because that is a mistake I would make a lot as a kid and growing up. And so, I do think back to that often, and it helps me emphasize the value of just taking the leap and taking the chance and not letting the fear of embarrassment or failure prevent me from pursuing something that could be truly wonderful and truly great for myself.
