About Priyanka

Priyanka Sharma is a final year dental student at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine, set to graduate in December. She earned her bachelor's degree in dental surgery in India and later completed a post-graduate course in international business management in Canada. After practicing dentistry for approximately three years in Canada, Sharma taught at a dental school in Aruba for six months. She currently holds the role of District 9 Commissioner for the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), overseeing student leaders from dental schools in Oklahoma, Colorado, and Texas, and maintains membership in the American Dental Association (ADA). Sharma attributes her professional success to her determination and refusal to give up, having begun her career in North America with a small assisting position before advancing to treatment coordinator. She is actively seeking opportunities to serve underserved populations in rural areas following graduation and has volunteered with organizations including the Martin Luther King Jr. Public Library and Bread for the City in Washington, D.C. Her core values include recognizing the worth of every individual, practicing respect, ethics, and doing no harm.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Priyanka

01What do you attribute your success to?

My determination and never giving up. I knew that I will make it and kept working towards it even on tough days with rejections. I started with a small assisting job and worked hard to become a treatment coordinator.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Keep learning because there's something to learn from everyone around you. Never give up. Keep going. Education is the most important thing for young women to be independently successful.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The challenge right now is finding the right job in a place where there is a need so I can dedicate a couple years serving the underserved population. The world is full of opportunities and I am thankful for the job offers I am getting.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Seeing value in every person. Acknowledgement, being respectful, ethical, and doing the right thing with no harm.
