Her Story

About Priyanka

Priyanka Panchal is a PhD student in her last year of study in Pharmaceutical Science with a specialization in Industrial Pharmacy. She earned her Master in Pharmacy from the Institute of Chemical Technology in India after ranking as the number one candidate in her state, which opened doors to fully funded international research opportunities. With eight years of research experience, including three years in industrial pharmacy and prior industry roles, she has developed expertise in novel formulations, currently focusing on GLP-1 microneedle systems as a non-invasive alternative to injections for better patient outcomes. Her earlier projects addressed cancer and respiratory diseases. Priyanka values her dual perspective from industry and academia, which strengthens her foundation of nearly eight years in research, and she aspires to become an independent researcher who one day launches her own pharmaceutical company. She is currently building entrepreneurial skills through a New York bootcamp program to support that goal.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Priyanka

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Research is hard, but if you know what to do, and if you know how to prioritize things. As researchers we work on weekends but maintain work-life balance, take care of mental and physical health, take breaks when needed, focus on physical health, take time for yourself, socializing is important.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

No work-life balance because researchers work on weekends with no break, which affects mental and physical health. Need to balance when working in research.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

In work: being an independent researcher discovering new things, doing new projects, working with different molecules to help patients, having strong foundation from 10 years experience, two perspectives from industry and academia. In personal life: groom myself to be a scientific scientist in future, gain confidence from knowledge to open own company, present myself, communicate, teach students.
