Her Interview

Ten minutes with Rachael

01What do you attribute your success to?

I've always been very persistent. Ever since I was a kid, when I'd get my mind set on something, I did not give up. No matter how many times I would fail at something, if it was something that I really wanted to be good at or achieve, I would stick with it. I also have proven to be resilience. I have endured many life challenges and allowed those things to bring increased humility, compassion, and strength.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Find something that gives you meaning and purpose. And then you don't necessarily feel like it's work. It kind of feels more life-giving than taking.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

When you get into something you really care about, there are pros and cons. You may hold onto things a bit more. It may take more practice to go home and leave work at work. But at the same time what you're doing every day really matters to you, and that's why you want to do so well at it. When you find that thing that you just can't do well enough at, you just want to keep improving, that's when you know you're in the right place.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Constantly questioning and wanting to do better, wanting to grow. Wanting to have the answers, but in this field you're never going to have all the answers. Things are more flexible, there's more gray. Another challenge is it's not about fixing or someone having a peaceful perfect life, it's a process of improvement and progress, and you have to let go and not let it eat you up.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Kindness and respect with all people. You never know the day someone's had. Living purposefully and intentionally, making decisions and choices that will have a positive impact.
