About Rachael
Rachael Roehrig serves as Deputy Inspector General at the Kentucky Office of Inspector General in Frankfort, Kentucky. She started her career in 2015 working for the state of Kentucky at the Department for Community-Based Services, where she determined eligibility for government assistance programs through direct interaction with residents. She advanced to the Medical Support and Benefits Branch in Central Office, gaining expertise in Medicaid policy and producing technical writing documents. Roehrig earned her Master's in Public Administration from Eastern Kentucky University in 2022, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She attributes her success to maintaining compassion for every case and person while working to improve systems for those they serve. Roehrig advises that women bring a unique compassionate perspective to public service roles, enabling them to understand family dynamics and household needs effectively.

01What do you attribute your success to?
Not losing the ability to really care for every single case and every single person is so important to success. Remembering who you're fighting for to make the system better is the motivation and fuel to keep going.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Women are especially suited to the field of being a public servant because it takes a real compassionate nature to care enough and see the picture from the family dynamic. Women coming into the field have that unique ability to see the needs of every household and work with that family to meet it, making the whole family feel comfortable that they have someone on their team that understands and wants to make it better for them.
