Her Interview
Ten minutes with Rachael
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the organization I work for at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. When I originally started there, I was doing patient registration, and I've been in the medical field for over 25 years. They always give people a chance and are willing to help people grow within their company. They gave me a chance in the clinical research position even when I didn't feel qualified, believing in me that I'm able to succeed wherever I go at SMH.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
No matter how hard challenges get, don't ever give up on yourself, because you can do it. You're always gonna be able to do it. There's always going to be the tough times, but at the end, as long as you give it your all, everything's gonna work out.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Never doubt yourself when you're in the healthcare field. Always be kind and compassionate to the patients. Just never doubt yourself that you can't do and excel and go in an area that you may doubt yourself on.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is juggling conflicts between study follow-ups, scheduled procedures, appointments and other duties. Opportunities include growth within the department, starting in data, getting promoted to clinical research coordinator, moving to lab specialist, and taking additional training like EKG and phlebotomy to learn more.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The value is always to be kind and compassionate to others, because you don't really know what somebody's going through. My philosophy is always just be kind and compassionate to others and understanding.
