What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute much of my success to my commitment to overcoming challenges and my willingness to pivot. I have always been open to new ideas and experiences. I have learned to push past fear and lean into discomfort, something that has served me working across so many industries. I am energized by opportunities that push me to think creatively, whether I’m launching a new campaign, refining a process, or coming up with new ideas. Traveling around the world has broadened my perspective, while reading self-development books and committing to lifelong learning keep me motivated, focused, and open to growth.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Don't show up to a hiring manager or recruiter expecting them to help you, give you free advice, or send you to the decision makers just because your resume is pretty and you have a fun personality. That works for some people, but the rest of us need to show up with something to offer, something that makes them stop in their tracks or solves a problem they have been struggling with for a long period of time. People like when you make cool stuff, they like it even better when your cool stuff makes their lives easier.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
KNOW YOUR VALUE
Know your value, but don't be cocky. Find the balance between being appreciative and knowing that you deserve your place. Advocate for yourself, ask questions boldly, and don’t hesitate to take up space in rooms where important decisions are made.
BE INTENTIONAL & AUTHENTIC
Build relationships with peers you can trust and look up to. Seek out mentors who champion your growth, and stay curious - never stop learning. Be authentic. Your unique perspective is your strength; let it guide your confidence, your creativity, and your career. Take responsibility for the impact you have on people, even in small interactions. If you are always putting something good into the world and strategizing your steps, I believe you can accomplish anything.
LISTEN
It is good to trust yourself, but you don't know everything. As I affectionately tell my dad, no one likes a know it all. When you stop believing you can learn from other people, you cut yourself off from your possibilities! People are full of great ideas and even better life lessons. Some of them will be kind enough to share them with you, don't take that for granted. Yes, you are wise and experienced. No, you do not know everything. Yes, that is completely okay!
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I know that our world is overflowing with brilliant thinkers, problem solvers, and people who can create the most phenomenal art/creative work. That does not mean we should not compete, but the reality is that it makes competition fierce and opportunities even harder to lock down. Though this can be discouraging, we all must remember that giving up is the only way you don't win. Never be afraid to step back, reflect, and adjust your goals as needed, but never give up. You have to be mentally strong and be your own biggest cheerleader. Taking on the challenge of standing out can be difficult, but it is also an opportunity for you to be the most memorable of all the people they interact with.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
In both my work and personal life, I value authenticity, learning new things, and celebrating the joyful moments! I have always been determined and a dreamer, never willing to give up. Over the years, I have learned that accepting what comes is one of the most important things to do. Sometimes what feels like rejection is really just you getting closer to finding your path. I am grateful for my life lessons, I am a better human as a result. Outside of work, I find balance through live music, spending time with friends and family, writing, yoga, and being outdoors—these are the moments that keep me grounded, energized, and aligned.
