About Rachel

Rachel Blatt serves as Founder and CEO of Royalty Ships, a Bloomfield Hills, Michigan-based transportation and logistics brokerage that coordinates vehicle shipping across the country for the automotive industry, including dealerships sourcing inventory from auctions. She launched the company 8.5 years ago after six years building businesses for others and prior work in tech sales, bringing her total industry experience to about 15 years. Blatt holds a bachelor's degree in management from Wayne State University, which she completed in 2013 while working and raising a family. Her firm, which has moved as many as 60,000 vehicles in a single year, belongs to fleet and dealer associations and supports the Girl Scouts. Recognized as a Top 5 Entrepreneur of Impact and with her company named a Top 50 Small Business, Blatt attributes her success to an obsessive focus on the business, high energy that she shares with staff and customers, and an ability to switch quickly between operations and sales. She values authenticity, accepting people as they are, and the undeniable truth of numbers, and she advises others that it is acceptable to walk away from difficult situations and that young women entering the field should develop a tough skin without taking matters personally.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Rachel

01What do you attribute your success to?

I'm kind of obsessed with it. I always joke that I have ADD but in some instances it's very helpful in my business when I have to change the channel from operation to sales. I have a lot of energy and try to bring that to all of my staff and customers.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

It's okay to walk away. It's okay to be dumb. I think so many people are afraid to walk away from a terrible situation, but it always ends up working out just fine.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Develop a tough skin and do not take everything personally. We're playing in a man's world and you don't have to play like a man, you can play like a woman but you gotta know when to be tough.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

There's a lot of fraud, there's a lot of theft. A lot of shortage of drivers. The logistics is complicated, and takes a lot more effort, a lot more money, the fuel costs are going crazy.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Authenticity. Just being your authentic self and accepting people for who they are and allowing them to be themselves. Really try to bring out the best in people but their real selves. And the undeniable - the numbers don't lie.
