About Rachel
Rachel Bruin is an HR professional with about 6 years of experience specializing in various aspects of human resources within the oil and gas and energy industry. She began her journey in the sector as an office services assistant at Noble Drilling in 2019 while pursuing her master's degree. She then moved to Seneca Resources, where she gained extensive HR knowledge in a smaller team environment, advancing from a contract role to full-time HR specialist after two promotions over three years. Following that, she took an HR business partner position at a family-owned oil and gas company based in Houston. Rachel joined Superior Energy Services in an HR compensation role that transitioned into global mobility and 401K responsibilities, and she was recently promoted to Human Resources Program Manager. Her educational path includes completing a bachelor's degree after nine years due to financial challenges as an international student, followed by a master's degree at the University of Houston-Downtown from 2017 to 2020.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I came here as an international student about 19 years ago. The career path was not linear and getting my bachelor's degree took about 9 years due to financial issues. I didn't stop. I finished my bachelor's and then got my master's. Even with the degree, I started at the very bottom because we don't have the experience. Start from the bottom and work your way up. Give it 110%, always learning, always willing to learn, always asking questions. Go to people who had 20 years of experience and ask them questions. At the end of the day, if you want something, you have to go get it.
