Her Story

About Rachel

I've always been drawn to mental health. When I was in college, I started out thinking that I wanted to be a teacher, and then as electives, I kept taking psychology electives, and I realized that's just where it was really exciting to me, and so that's where I ended up moving in that direction, always wanting to work in mental health. I wasn't expecting that that would be a field that I would go into, and I was just always really excited about learning how our brains work and how people are influenced. When I first moved to New York City and I started my first job in case management, I really saw how impactful it can be in a person's life, particularly with the folks that we were working with at the time. I've just seen people make amazing change that really impacts them, but also the people around them. It's really empowering for people to make that change and also be able to take responsibility for all the work they've done to get there. Right now, in private practice, I focus on working with patients and learning as much as I can to be a better therapist for the people that I have in my practice. Day-to-day is really just Monday through Thursday, I see a lot of clients back-to-back, and that's pretty much all I do now.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I really think just having good mentors has really been important to me. Having people who have showed me how to be a good supervisor when I was doing that. I would say people who really kind of led with kindness and care have really been motivating.
