Her Story
About Rachel
I'm an architect with about 7 years of experience. I worked in New York City where I was involved in all different types of projects - multifamily, some landmark projects, schools, and healthcare. Currently, I'm working for a company in New Jersey that's doing some smaller-scale commercial work. I always had an interest in architecture, but when it came time for college, I wasn't really sure if I wanted to commit to it, so I ended up majoring in art for undergrad because I always had an artistic side and wanted to explore that a little more. But at the end of the day, I kind of realized I wanted something that involved creativity but also combined some business element. I was also always kind of good at math, so I thought maybe architecture was something I did want to pursue. That's when I applied for my master's program and attended Pratt University in Brooklyn, where I did my Master's of Architecture.

Ten minutes with Rachel
01What do you attribute your success to?
I think my family, my husband, my support system - anytime I have any doubts, there's always someone, thankfully, to kind of help me, guide me, or push me. And then mentors from work who have also helped push me. Having that support system around me has been really important to my success.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I think if you know what you want to do, it helps, and don't think it's not possible. You can do it. You can make it work with kids and family, if that's something that you're thinking about. Growing in the industry is also possible. So, you know, if it's something that you're interested in, definitely go for it.
