Her Story

About Rachel

Rachel Henderson is an experienced accountant and owner of Mz. Rachel’z Place LLC and Mz. Rachel’z Taxez, with more than 30 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, tax preparation and financial advisory services. She began her career in Silicon Valley during the height of the technology boom, where she worked with multimillion-dollar budgets and developed a strong foundation in financial management. Over the course of her career, Rachel has worked extensively with small business owners, with a particular focus on supporting women entrepreneurs as they navigate the financial complexities of running a business. Initially focused on bookkeeping and accounting, Rachel recognized that many business owners sought professional assistance only when tax season arrived. She saw an opportunity to provide a more comprehensive approach that would help clients understand their finances throughout the year rather than simply prepare their tax returns. This led her to develop her Head-to-Toe Tax Framework, a five-step educational model designed to help business owners understand their tax responsibilities, maintain accurate financial records, interpret financial statements, manage tax obligations and protect their financial interests while preparing for future growth. Today, Rachel places a strong emphasis on financial education and empowerment, encouraging clients to understand their own money even when they rely on professionals to handle the technical work. Through Mz. Rachel’z Taxez, she provides tax preparation, bookkeeping and accounting, tax advisory, IRS support, business consulting and strategic planning. Her work is particularly relevant to digital entrepreneurs, coaches, consultants, creatives and content creators who are building successful businesses and need greater financial clarity. Rachel is also exploring how artificial intelligence can support financial management and education, reflecting her commitment to helping entrepreneurs adopt practical tools and make more informed financial decisions.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Rachel

01What do you attribute your success to?

Rachel Henderson is an experienced accountant and tax professional who has spent much of her career helping small business owners, particularly women, better understand their finances, bookkeeping, accounting, and tax obligations. She began her accounting career in Silicon Valley during the technology boom and described the current rise of AI as feeling familiar because she has previously experienced a period of major technological change.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is to recognize when it is time to evolve and use your experience to create opportunities for others. After spending decades preparing tax returns and building my expertise, I’ve learned that success is not simply about doing more of the same; it is about understanding where your knowledge can have the greatest impact. At this stage of my career, I’m focused on teaching, guiding, and educating women about money so they can make informed financial decisions for themselves. I also believe strongly in being intentional about the communities and professional relationships I build, surrounding myself with people who genuinely support one another, share knowledge, and are committed to helping each other grow.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the accounting and tax industry is to never be afraid to ask questions, learn continuously, and understand the “why” behind the numbers rather than simply completing the task in front of you. Build a strong foundation, gain experience, and stay open to new technology, including AI, because our industry will continue to evolve. Most importantly, believe in your abilities, be willing to take up space, and understand that you do not have to know everything on day one. Your knowledge, experience, and willingness to keep learning will become some of your greatest assets.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

We are living in an information age, which is both one of the biggest challenges and opportunities in the tax and accounting profession. People have more access to tax information than ever, but much of what they see online is incomplete, taken out of context, or simply does not apply to their situation. That creates an opportunity for tax professionals to be more transparent and educational with our clients. Our job should not only be to prepare tax returns or keep books. We must help clients understand their options so they can make informed decisions instead of getting caught up in viral tax advice. AI is creating a similar shift. Rather than viewing it as a threat, I believe professionals need to learn how to use these tools responsibly, help clients understand how to use them, protect sensitive financial information, and recognize when technology is helpful versus when human expertise is needed.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me are family, truth, compassion, perseverance, and connection. As a mother of three sons, and soon my first grandchild, family will always be at the heart of my life. I value being present, supportive, and encouraging as my children grow and pursue their goals. I believe in approaching both my personal life and my work with authenticity, humor, passion, and a genuine desire to understand others. I strive to lead with excellence, remain resilient through challenges, and create an environment where people feel comfortable being themselves. I value the importance of love, self-development, and embracing every season of life with gratitude and joy.
