About Rachel

Rachel McMurray is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, clinical supervisor, consultant, and educator with nearly two decades of experience in the mental health field. Based in Camarillo, California, she specializes in the treatment of complex mental health conditions, including personality disorders, eating disorders, substance use disorders, trauma, bipolar disorder, self-injury, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, and neurodivergent processing. Drawing from experience across private practice, behavioral health programs, and treatment centers, Rachel has built a reputation for providing compassionate, evidence-based care to adolescents, young adults, and families facing significant emotional and psychological challenges.

After earning her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Chapman University, Rachel developed a diverse clinical career that included roles in crisis stabilization, residential and outpatient treatment, and program leadership. She served as Clinical Director for The Lakehouse Recovery Center and worked with Ventura County Behavioral Health before establishing her own private practice. Her work focuses particularly on young adults navigating ADHD, autism, executive functioning difficulties, trauma recovery, and “failure-to-launch” challenges, helping clients build resilience, independence, and meaningful lives.

Beyond her clinical work, Rachel is an active educator, speaker, and advocate within the mental health community. She contributes to professional development through continuing education seminars, mentorship of emerging therapists, and nonprofit leadership supporting pre-licensed clinicians. Her volunteer service includes long-standing involvement with RAINN and previous leadership with SERVE (Students Educating about Rape and Violence Everywhere). Known for her integrity, authenticity, and dedication to meeting people where they are, Rachel remains committed to advancing mental health awareness while empowering individuals to heal, grow, and thrive.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Rachel

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to perseverance, compassion, and a deep commitment to my clients and profession. Since I was 11 years old, I knew I wanted to become a therapist, and that passion has guided my career. Building meaningful connections, continuing to grow as a clinician, and learning from mentors and life experiences have all played a key role in my success.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

One of the best pieces of career advice I received came through the mentorship of Gene, a colleague I worked with in eating disorder treatment. His guidance helped shape my clinical skills, deepen my understanding of therapeutic work, and reinforced the importance of continual learning and growth. The lessons I learned from him continue to influence my practice and leadership approach today.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't stop believing in yourself. Have boundaries. Take care of yourselves because the work involves jumping inside the pain of other people.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is making mental health care affordable as insurance benefits are being cut. The opportunity is endless career paths where you can save and change lives.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide both my work and personal life are compassion, integrity, resilience, service, and authenticity. I believe in meeting people where they are, supporting them without judgment, and helping them navigate life's challenges with dignity and hope. I also value perseverance, personal growth, and maintaining healthy boundaries so I can continue serving others effectively. At the center of everything I do is a commitment to helping people heal, grow, and thrive.v
