Her Interview
Ten minutes with Rachel
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my career growth to consistently saying yes to opportunities that challenged me, even when I did not initially feel completely qualified or confident in my ability to succeed. Throughout my career, I have intentionally accepted positions that stretched my capabilities and required me to learn quickly. There were many situations where I felt that a role was beyond my existing skill set, but I pushed myself to take on the challenge and proved that I was capable of succeeding.
I have learned that confidence does not always come before the opportunity. Sometimes, the opportunity comes first, and the confidence develops through doing the work, overcoming challenges, and realizing that I am capable of more than I initially believed. Continually pushing myself outside of my comfort zone has played a significant role in shaping who I am professionally today.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women not to wait until they feel 100% qualified before pursuing an opportunity. Women can sometimes focus heavily on the one or two requirements they do not yet have instead of recognizing all of the experience, skills, and accomplishments they already bring to the table.
My advice is to become comfortable being uncomfortable. Do not allow the absence of one skill or experience to convince you that you are incapable of succeeding. Take the opportunity, be willing to learn, challenge yourself, and allow your abilities to grow along the way.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The technology industry has been extremely challenging, particularly because of widespread layoffs and organizational restructuring. I have personally experienced four layoffs within five years, and while artificial intelligence may play a role in some of these changes, I believe the broader shift toward organizations doing more with fewer employees has also significantly affected the industry.
At the same time, these changes have created an opportunity for me to take greater control of my own future. Rather than continuing to depend entirely on traditional employment structures, I have decided to build my own business and explore how AI can help smaller businesses capture opportunities and improve customer experiences through greater availability and automation. I see AI as an important part of the future and an opportunity to create new solutions while adapting to the changing technology landscape.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Authenticity, honesty, collaboration, and bringing people together are among the values that matter most to me. I believe people can recognize when someone is not being genuine, so I try to be authentic in both what I am working toward and how I work with others.
I also believe strongly in approaching relationships and business from a perspective of "what's in it for us?" rather than simply asking what is in it for me. I value understanding what is important to the other person, finding common ground, and bringing people together to accomplish a shared goal. Whether personally or professionally, I believe the strongest outcomes come from genuine collaboration, mutual understanding, and working together toward something meaningful.
