Ten minutes with Rachel
01What do you attribute your success to?
I honestly give it to my dad. My mom was a stay-at-home mom. My dad worked nonstop when we were kids. He got his degree while us kids were still little. He was working full-time and then as soon as you got home you would go immediately to school. Because of that I feel like I was able to have the blessings that I have today. My mom too. We're very strong-rooted in faith and my parents kept us in the church.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Don't be afraid to ask for help and ask questions. When you're young and you're first getting into things you may feel scared to reach out to higher-ups and ask clarifying questions but don't feel like anything's a stupid question. I took that and ran with it and always ask every single person I need to any question any clarifying question I need and that's been a huge piece of advice because at the end of the day when you're young it is scary to ask higher-up people those questions but that's what helps you grow that's what helps you learn.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Just don't give up. In the very beginning it seems like it's a long ride and you're never gonna get there and you're never gonna make that money you're not gonna make that salary but it does happen. It just takes time and patience and leaning on the people that you trust. I've definitely had my days where coming out of college I had no clue what I was going to do but if you just keep the faith it will pursue.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
AI is a huge thing. The use of AI has definitely made my job easier. Something that would have taken me days to do and it's cut it down to maybe hours. But it is a challenge too because then there's this expectation that oh AI can just do it and there's still a human aspect that needs to be part of it. It has definitely opened a ton of opportunities for this career field. We have the ability now to come up with a concept and ask AI and come up with a script like immediately. But it also kind of makes it difficult for opportunity for growth though because AI sort of the one-stop shop it seems like.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Time is probably the most valuable thing to me. I value the time to be creative and do the work that I need to do. I also value leaders who allow me that opportunity. It's really difficult to get work done when you have somebody who's breathing over your shoulder so I really value the leaders who trust you to do what you know what your expertise is. For personal time I think I value my time more than anything. You can give me a million dollars in the world but it's not gonna be worth the time that I spend with my family and my kids so my time is definitely the most valuable thing.
