Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success primarily to God’s grace, which has guided every step of my journey. I am also deeply grateful for the influence of my grandmother, whose timeless wisdom, “this too shall pass,” has provided me with a sense of stability and comfort throughout life’s seasons. My path has been shaped by faith, resilience, and an unexpected academic calling that led me to a life of purpose in education and service. Initially, this unexpected direction was met with uncertainty. Still, it eventually became a source of profound fulfillment as I discovered my passion for helping underserved students and creating opportunities for those in need. Above all, I honor the unwavering love and support of my son and my mother, whose strength, encouragement, and unwavering belief in me continue to inspire me in everything I do.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to lead with fearlessness. True growth begins when you step outside your comfort zone and take bold action, even when the outcome is uncertain. Fearlessness doesn’t mean the absence of fear—it means moving forward in spite of it. Every major breakthrough in my career came from saying yes to challenges that once intimidated me: new industries, unfamiliar technologies, and leadership roles that stretched my confidence. When you choose courage over comfort, you unlock doors you didn’t even know existed. Fearlessness turns obstacles into opportunities—and transforms ambition into impact.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to lead with self-love, perseverance, and unshakable confidence—the true foundations of lasting success. Growing up with a single mother and without an active father, I learned early that strength is built through perseverance and faith in your own potential. Every challenge became a lesson in resilience, and every setback a reminder to keep moving forward. Align your career with what truly fulfills you—your natural gifts, passions, and purpose—because that alignment will sustain you when the path feels uncertain. Remember to care for yourself along the way, to pause and celebrate your progress, and to embrace the qualities that make you unique. The most successful women are not those who have had the easiest journey, but those who have transformed adversity into power—and used that power to inspire and uplift others.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest opportunities in my life have often appeared in moments of uncertainty. Each turning point—whether pursuing my doctorate, entering a new industry, or stepping into leadership—required courage, faith, and a willingness to grow beyond what was familiar. Joining Apple became one of my most transformative opportunities, revealing how technology can unlock access and possibility for students everywhere. Teaching has been another profound gift, allowing me to witness potential ignite in others and the ripple effect of empowerment that follows. Every opportunity—personal, professional, and academic—has taught me that when faith meets preparation, doors open beyond imagination. True opportunity isn’t found—it’s created through courage, purpose, and belief in yourself.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide me most, faith, family & friends, curiosity, and lifelong learning, shape every part of who I am. Family & kriends keeps me grounded and reminds me daily of the importance of leading with love, grace, and authenticity. My passion for education reflects a deep belief in its power to transform lives and open doors for those who dare to dream bigger. Traveling to more than 20 countries has expanded my perspective and deepened my appreciation for diversity, connection, and purpose. Whether in the classroom, at work, or exploring the world, I aim to stay open-hearted, curious, and committed to growing into the best version of myself every day.
