About Rachel
Rachel Sanders has spent 42 years in the construction industry and currently works as a lead estimator. Her career began with hands-on roles alongside family members in painting and drywall, progressing to production drywaller and painter positions, customer service representative for a builder in Huntington Beach, and later superintendent and project manager roles. After the industry downturn in 2009, she pursued further education in estimating, which became her passion, and she worked at The Austin Company for four to five years, earning four performance awards for her contributions. Rachel emphasizes the importance of field experience for accurate estimating and mentors young estimators as well as students at local colleges to build interest in the trades. She advises aspiring women estimators to spend time on the field to understand means and methods.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Know the field. Get on the field. Whatever you estimate, make sure that you're spending time on the field, and getting the full comprehensive of how the field works because means and methods has a lot to do with your estimating.
